Karl Marx; ” The Criticism of religion is the prerequisite of all criticism.” (1)
Mao Zedong; “We will substitute materialism for idealism and atheism for theism.” (2)
Oh, Mother Russia, the birthplace of the death of religion. Well, not necessarily religion, because atheism is a religion, but the death of theism, a religion which worships a supernatural god. So really what Russia gave us with the rise of the bolshevik government, the USSR, was the birth of a society and government where atheism would rule and theism would be driven from the government, the classroom and if possible entirely exterminated from society. If anyone was so stubborn, so stupid, so backward that they refused to accept the “fact” of the material evolution of the world and the fundamental faith that no religion is the best religion (atheism is the best religion) then they would just have to be killed. Or removed to a gulag where they could be worked to death for the mere cost of a bowl of soup and two slices of bread a day.
And I’m not making this up, it’s estimated that Stalin killed from 85,000,000 to 100,000,000 people in less then 30 years. Many of these were the peasants and small farmers of the Soviet back country and farm lands. You see, they were too backwards to accept the new Darwinian ideas and subsequent idealogies, and they stubbornly clung to their age old forms of Christianity and such.Thus, they made poor communists. And besides, the government wanted their land. So, the people’s government (as it was often glowingly called in American school textbooks of the late 60’s and 70’s) simply had them killed, confiscated their lands and created large government run co-operatives.
Now, don’t get excited and say to yourself how wrong that was, because if there is no god over the government, the government is god, and whatever they do is right, by default. And Joseph Stalin and his comrades thought what they were doing was good and right, according to their secular ideas. And in the US and Europe, those of the progressive left were falling over themselves in praise of Stalin. They considered him as Malcolm Muggeridge said, “to be as wise as Solomon, as humanitarian as Marcus Arelius and as enlightened as a shoker.” His regime was so idealized by the left in the USA, that they decided to radicalize the country, rid it of it’s archaic Christian theistic values and model a new American government after it. And I’m not sure they haven’t almost succeeded.
Ever wonder where the “right” to kill unborn babies arose in modern times? Mother Russia, under Stalin. And by the time I was growing up in the sixties in the US, Castro and Mao Zedong were also being lionized on the secular college campuses and their ideals touted as superior to those archaic values on which the largely Puritan and Christian founders of this country framed the American government. And so it should come as no surprise that we “legalized” abortion by the early 70’s. As the Scripture says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end there of is death.” (Proverbs 16:25) Babies in the womb to a materialist are really non-entities, but of course so is any one else, if they get in the way of “progress”. As popular atheist writer, Sam Harris, said;
” Some propositions are so dangerous that it may even be ethical to kill the people that believe them. Certain beliefs place their adherents beyond the reach of every peacful means of persuasion.” (3)
Mr. Harris comes highly recommended by Richard Dawkins who often encourages his audiences on secular college campuses to read his books, because of their “brilliance”. Mr. Harris is recommending killing people who don’t hold atheist ideals and his books are being recommended by one of the most popular Science speakers in the U.S. However, speakers and writers who champion an historical view of Genesis are considered dangerous, and backwards or, “stupid, or insane” (4), by the secularists and “fundamentalists” by well adapted progressive Christians. Just like the Russian peasants were in Russia.
Oh, the goverment run co-ops? They were collosal failures. They went bankrupt. After killing off all those stupid, backward peasants, (many who ran successful small farms) they shipped in workers from the urban centers and put them in very small apartments in very large government buildings on the co-ops. Not owning any land, and thus having little incentive to work hard and plan ahead, the newly transplanted “proletariat” lacked initiative and practical farming skills. Besides, the government promised to feed and provide for them even if they failed.
And that’s only the beginning of the story of the history of the first secular government to finally get rid of religion, or at least of the theistic variety of it. The first government to fulfill the atheist’s dream, a society that abolished God. Still sound enticing to you? Hopefully we’ll have a chance to cover more of the tragic failures of this government in the future, Lord willing.
Have a great day.
